Homecoming Parade FAQs
Q: Why are only high school clubs allowed to have a float?
A: There are multiple reasons we decided to limit the parade to high school floats only:
Our growing community cannot support that many floats on our limited route - the last year it was open we had 42 floats — the parade was longer than the route, and there were no kids to throw candy to because they were all in the parade!
Safety – due to the logistics of managing large trailers and trucks in the staging area (home football parking) and around the construction zone for the multipurpose building, it is necessary to limit the number of participants to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
Homecoming focuses on the high school game, and limiting floats to high school organizations allows us to really highlight the many clubs, sports, etc that our awesome high school offers!
Q: I used to set up on the road up to the home side, but I see that you don’t have that option anymore. Why has that been changed?
A: Due to the choke point of the construction zone, we have decided to close off that road for enjoying the parade or parking. The parade participants will not throw any candy or items until they are on Eagle Spirit Lane. Please help us ensure the safety of the community as well as the parade participants in honoring this request.
Q: What’s the policy with tossing candy/items out to people along the parade route?
A: One of the priorities both the school and the Brock Eagle Booster Club put above all else for this parade is safety. In the past, one persistent issue along the parade route has been kids coming too close to the floats in order to retrieve candy/items that were tossed on the ground. In an effort to remedy that problem, this year we are requiring each car have one adult walking along each side of it, and a minimum of two adults walking along each side of a float/truck+trailer to help keep kids away from the vehicles themselves. We’ve also changed our policy on tossing candy. Only adults or students walking alongside the floats can underhand toss items AWAY towards the tailgating community. We understand this is a big change, but to ensure we can continue the tradition of tossing items out to the crowds, we think this will be a positive solution.
Q: Will there be other restrooms available besides at the football field?
A: YES, we should have restrooms at several points along the route.
Q: Can I choose the tailgating space for my team/club?
A: No – there are specific spaces along the route for tailgating and they are assigned based on the number of participants of the group, ages, etc. We will make all location decisions that are best for the flow of the parade and crowd control. We will do our best to make sure all groups are safe and enjoy every aspect of the parade!
Q: Will there be food at the parade?
A: There are some tailgating areas that will be bringing food to share with participants! You are also welcomed to bring food for your own group, but no grilling for liability reasons. There will NOT be a concession stand, but we may have a snowcone stand on site!
Thanks for your participation and support of Brock Football and Brock High School! We are looking forward to another fun community event!
